Kim Meow Liew Prof.KimMeowLiew,CityUniversityofHongKong,China,Itiswidelyacceptedthatcarbonnanotubes(CNTs)areanadvancedmaterialpossessinghighstrengthandstiffnessaswellasahighaspectratioandlowdensity.ResearchfindingshavereportedtheremarkablephysicalandmechanicalpropertiesofCNTs,makingthemastrongcandidateforthereinforcementsinpolymercomposites.TheaxialYoung'smodulusofsingle-walledcarbonnanotubearrayswithdiametersrangingfromnanometertometerscales.ThemechanicalpropertiesofCNTsaresuperiortothoseofcarbonfibers.Inrecentstudies,CNTshavebeendesignedtobeuniaxiallyalignedinanaxialdirectionfollowingthefunctionallygradedpattern,leadingtoanewclassofcompositematerial–thatis,theCNTreinforcedfunctionallygradedcompositematerial.ThisCNT-reinforcedcompositecanbeusedintheformofbeam,plateorshellstructuralcomponents.Becauseoftheiruseinavarietyofstructures,studiesoftheirmechanicalbehavior,intermsofbending,buckling,vibration,largedeformation,postbucklingandlargeamplitudevibrationhavereceivedconsiderableattention.Inthistalk,t
